The difference between hot pressing and cold pressing saw blades

Jun. 05, 2024

Sintering process is divided into cold pressing and hot pressing.

1. Hot pressing diamond saw blade.

First, the diamond particles and metal powder need to be mixed in a ball mill in a certain proportion to make them evenly distributed. Then the diamond mixture is loaded into the mold and pressed to make it initially formed, and then sintered under high temperature and high pressure conditions.

The production process of hot pressing is simple. Because it is carried out under high temperature and high pressure, the sintering density is high, the diamond particles are more firmly combined with the metal matrix, the saw blade structure is more stable, the blade is not easy to deform during the cutting process, and the cutting accuracy is higher. Due to the fine control of the hot pressing process, the distribution of diamond particles in the blade is more uniform and has good wear resistance. In addition, the thickness of the diamond blade head of the sintering process is thinner and the thickness of each blade head is basically the same. The friction force is smaller during the cutting process and the cutting speed is faster. Its production cycle is within 15 minutes.

○  Advantages: Due to the high hardness of the diamond particles and the thin thickness of the blade head of the hot pressed diamond saw blade, its cutting efficiency is higher and the service life is longer. The replacement frequency is reduced during use and the cost is reduced.

○  Disadvantages: The price is relatively high compared to cold-pressed saw blades.

★  Applicable types: Suitable for high-intensity and high-precision cutting tasks, such as large-scale construction projects, precision stone processing, etc.

2. Cold-pressed diamond saw blade.

The cold-pressed production process is similar to the hot-pressed one. First, the diamond particles and metal powder are mixed evenly, and the mixed powder is loaded into the mold. It is pressed under high pressure at room temperature to make it initially formed, and then it is sintered at a temperature lower than the hot-pressed sintering temperature. This process usually does not apply high pressure.

The manufacturing process of the cold-pressed process is relatively simple, and does not require complex equipment and high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, so the production cost is low. Since the production process does not require high temperature, the requirements for diamond particles are low, and low-hardness diamond particles are usually used. In addition, there is no high-pressure pressing during the sintering process, and the distribution of diamond particles in the blade head may be uneven, which is easy to affect the service life of the saw blade. In addition, the control accuracy of the cold-pressed process is relatively low, and the saw blade heads produced are usually thicker, the friction during the cutting process is greater, and the cutting speed is relatively slow. At the same time, the thickness of each blade head will have a slight deviation, and vibration may occur during the cutting process, affecting the cutting effect. The output of cold pressing is large, and the production cycle is several hours.

○  Advantages: simple manufacturing process, low production cost, and low price. Simple production process, fast production, and short delivery time.

○  Disadvantages: Large-scale unified production, product quality cannot be guaranteed, and due to the limitations of diamond particle hardness and blade thickness, cutting accuracy, speed and service life are poor.

★  Applicable types: Suitable for general cutting operations, such as home decoration, small-scale construction projects, etc., which do not require high cutting accuracy and durability.

In summary, hot-pressed and cold-pressed diamond saw blades each have their own advantages in terms of process and performance. Hot-pressed saw blades have superior cutting performance and durability due to their high-hardness diamond particles and precisely controlled blade thickness; while cold-pressed saw blades meet general cutting needs with their economical and widely applicable characteristics. Users should reasonably choose appropriate diamond saw blades according to specific application scenarios and needs to achieve the best cutting effect and economic benefits.
